Learn to Row and Joining the Club

Hi! Thank you for your interest in our club.

I am Em, the Learn to Row (LTR) Co-ordinator. I organise all things LTR and will be your main point of contact through the below process.

**Please be aware that due to the popularity of our LTR course and new members joining the club, the LTR waiting list is closed to adults (from sixth foxm age) as of 21.07.2023. We are not currently accepting any new joiners to the waiting list, unless you with to join the youth squad (12-15 yrs old) is to allow all our new adult starters time to settle into the club and ensure we as a club are able to provide enough rows and support for all members. A f you are looking to join our youth squad, please keep reading. If you are looking to join our adult squads please do check back at the start of 2024 for updates**

We run a LTR course 3 times a year. These give you a great feel for rowing and help you to decide if the sport is for you or not. The course consists of 1 face to face group health and safety session and up to 6 on the water sessions (weather dependent).  You will be provided with a username and password for our club website so you can sign up to the sessions on the online calendar and read the relevant protocols and procedures before starting your course. The cost of the LTR course is £30 which must be transferred to our club account prior to the health and safety session. the aim of these sessions is not to make you an incredibe rower, but to ensure you learn the basic stroke and commands, and are safe in and out the gig.

After completion of LTR, you can decide whether you wish to join the main club. Fees are set from January to January and your membership will be charged pro rata from the end of your LTR block. Fees are £140 for an adult, which includes at least 2 on water rows a week and access to the club’s erg (indoor rower) training area.

If you join the club, you will be put in to your appropiate squad. You will then have the opportunity to improve your skills and join a crew, should you wish, (based on selection) or row socially. We want you to develop a real love for rowing and support you in your goal to row at whatever level you choose to row at.

All those new to rowing are required to go through our LTR course. This is essential to ensure gig rowing is right for you and you learn how to row safely. If you already have experience of gig rowing, please follow the same process below, however make this known on the waiting list group. You will just need a refresher to go through our safety procedures and we will aim to get you in a boat as soon as possible.

If you would like to do a LTR course, you simply need to download and join the app WhatsApp (if you aren’t already on it) and then follow this link or scan the QR code. Once you are on the group, you are on the waiting list! Please do say hello, as there are lots of others on the group too. All the information for the next sessions will be on the group. I (Em) am also on the group to answer any questions.

Hope to meet you soon!
