Somerset 525 is launched

The Somerset 525 Virtual Rowing Championship is taking place over three consecutive days, from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th March 2021, and we are thrilled to announce we are welcome to Para-Rowers (PR) / Adaptive Rowers (AR) Competitors, rowing from home will have the opportunity to enter one, two or three of following individual and team races: 500m sprint (individual only) 2K (individual and team option) 5K (individual and team option) Categories are: Open Ladies and Men (18-39) Ladies and Men’s Vets (40-49) Ladies and Men’s Supers (50 plus) Juniors ages 12-17 PR1 (Arms and Shoulders) / AR1 PR2 (Trunk and Arms) / AR2 PR3 (PD) (Leg Trunk and Arms—Physically Disabled) / AR3-PD Entering is easy - just click here to enter: https://airtable.com/shr4S7jGdCesNF8fN or follow us on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/somersetvirtualrowing/ There are individual and team races for both the 2K and the 5K plus there will be an overall prize for the fastest lady and man from all competitors who compete in all three races. Teams will be made up of four rowers, from any age category. Mixed teams are allowed but must consist of two men and two women. Individual entry will automatically allow you to join up with other members from the same club to create your team, for no extra charge. Your club can enter as many teams as you like. Each club team will be ranked starting with the fastest four being team A, and so on. The races will be a straight ‘fastest past the post’. Results will need to be submitted by 8pm GMT on the day of that race (by 6pm on Sunday 28th for the 500 race). This gives you the freedom to complete that days’ race at any point during that day. Results will be revealed on Sunday 28th at 8pm. Schedule The 500m sprint race and the Juniors 525 will be held on Sunday 28th, the 2k on Saturday 27th and finally the 5K race will take place on Friday 26th. Submitting results Results will be submitted using the unique link that will be sent with your registration. You will need proof of your time in the form of a Concept2 PM monitor screen shot. Pictures must clearly show the distance covered and the time taken. There is a trust element involved here so please play fair, and the judge’s decision is final. Entry fees Each race entry fee £5, Juniors £4. Early bird discount of 3 races for £12, plus early entry will get you a fantastic Somerset 525 race vest. There will be no extra cost for team entry. FAQs You will need access to a Concept2 Model C, D, or E rowing machine with at least a PM3 monitor. This can be at a gym, a club or at home. No other makes of rower will qualify. You will be competing at your own risk and you will need to be sufficiently fit and experienced in using a Concept2 rowing machine, to allow for safe participation in the Somerset 525. Please ensure that your monitor is showing the correct date for the screen shot to qualify. Late result entries will not be counted (we need to have a cut off). Cut off times are 8pm GMT on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday is 6pm BST for the 5K race. You can have as many goes as you like at the distance on that day, submit just one screenshot and time though. The entry fees are non-refundable. After registration, you will receive a race number and a payment link via PayPal. Entrance is not complete until payment has been cleared. You do not need to live in Somerset, you can live anywhere, literally!
