A team of 20 rowers from PPGC have recently taken part in a rowing competition joining 906 other teams from around the world to row as many kilometres as possible between 15th September and 15th October. Taking part in the virtual category, Portishead came 8th out of 88 online teams, and managed to achieve an outstanding 66th place overall out of 905 teams. Understandably, PPGC were thrilled with their result, clocking up over 3,000,000m in 31 days. "We are so proud of our dedicated team of rowers who really put in the effort on their ERGS" said Hedley Jones, Vice Chair of Portishead Gig Club. "3,097,342 metres is an incredible distance to row at home; it shows real dedication and commitment . We were competing against some big teams from many different countries, so the team have done Portishead proud." The team members rowed on ERGS (rowing machines) set up in their basement, garages, kitchens and sheds to clock up the kilometres. Some watched netfix, others listened to music but for all the inspiration was being part of a team and a real competitive desire to beat other teams. Klara Anstey, team captain said "Its been great to be part of a team, to encourage each to row further. This has really helped us all to maintain our fitness and work together. We miss being out on the boats as part of a crew, so this is a great way of maintaining the team spirit as well as fitness."
