Following our participation in the Royal Regatta back in April, Portishead Pilot Gig Club were proud and delighted to be invited to join the Platinum Reflections flotilla on the river Thames on Saturday 24th September. We joined over 150 power and non-powered craft on a three hour row in our wooden racing gig ‘Black Nore’, all beautifully decorated with white lights. With a multitude of bridges and London landmarks also lit up in fitting recognition of the Queen’s reign over the United Kingdom and Commonwealth for 70 years and celebrating the start of the reign of King Charles III, it was a breath taking row through the heart of our capital. “It was such an experience to be part of” said David Grant, who coxed the crew through the flotilla. “With so many craft on the water in the dark we had to be really careful and navigate it well but the atmosphere was incredible, with everyone recognising the importance and poignancy of the event. It was a privilege to take part in it”.
With rowers from all age categories of the club taking part from juniors through to supervets, it definitely was a memorable event for our club!
