Conquer the cape

We love a challenge at PPGC, and whether it's on the erg on the water we certainly like to put the KM's in. Some of our club are living up to this reputation by taking part in the Conquer the Cape endurance race in May. This is run by our friends at Dorset Indoor Rowing. Entrants have to row the length of the Cape - from Somerset all the way round to Dorset, which is an incredible 725km. Rowing in pairs or as individuals, trophies will go to those who complete it first. There are different groups broken up into counties, so we are competing against other rowers from Somerset. All KM's count, on and off the water, so it's not just the grueling erg that they have to endure. PPGC is putting in an incredible showing, with David Grant and Paul turner currently on 510 km. Others aren't far behind. Having to row on average 15km a day each, it is an incredible effort for all participants when you are working, getting a club back on the water and just dealing with life every day! They are up against tough competition, with some pairings having already completed it - with some even breaking world records in the process - Lucy Bufton and Sarah Luxton set a world record for the longest continual tandem row - an amazing 60 hours! Inspirational, but not sure many of us would like to try that!
