Welcome Denny Shoal

Mon 3rd May 2021

This week we've welcomed a new edition to the Portishead Gig Club family - a GRP called Denny Shoal. We sadly had to give Tribute back, and this left us with a gap in our family that we had to fill. She had been fundamental in helping us to grow the club and getting our waiting list down and we couldn't have been more grateful for the Gig in a Box scheme from the CPGA for giving us the opportunity to have her. During lockdown, some of our eager eyed members spotted a gig for sale from Portsmouth University Gig Club that unfortunately had decided to close down. Thankfully we were able to snap her up. She did need a little (well quite a lot) of TLC, and thanks to Jerry at Bristol Boats we've been able to get her ship shape and Portishead fashion. We were able to fund this from some of the money raised from the Somerset 525. We were lucky she came in our colours so we just had to decide on a name.... Names, most with a local connection, were suggested then whittled down to 5 and Denny Shoal came up tops. For those not in know, Denny Shoal is an area in the Bristol Channel and is often marked with a buoy. We are looking forward to having many trips out on the channel and for her to become a real part of the Portishead rowing family. Welcome to the club!
